Isaiah 6:10
Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”
I find this verse interesting and I think it tells us A LOT!
We can not afford to be calloused, have dull ears or closed eyes.
Calloused:
made hard; hardened.
insensitive; indifferent; unsympathetic
Dull:
not sharp
causing boredom; tedious; uninteresting:
not lively or spirited; listless.
Close:
to become closed, shut
confined; narrow
When I look at these words I don’t see three separate things, I see ONE CONDITION!! —-DISCONNECTED FROM GOD.
If we no longer care about what is happening around us unless it directly affects us, our life, our relationships, our money then we are disconnected.
If we are bored with the things of God, uninterested in the reading the word, just wondering aimlessly then we are disconnected.
If we are stopping ourselves from seeing issue that need to be dealt with, having a narrow mindset that doesn’t allow God to speak because of what we think we think or know then we are disconnected.
(May I be honest….
I can be calloused toward people if I believe what is going on in there lives is a result of their poor decisions.
I can be dull by being aimless at times, not hearing or even taking the time to think about what I am reading or hearing, passing the moment to ponder about how it applies to my life and by not listening to what others are saying (poor listening and communication skills) believing I know better.
I have even been one in the past who stopped myself from dealing with things, putting on the rose colored glasses and walking on as if nothing happened –allowing sin to breed, anger to grow and bitterness and grudges to take root. )
btw –did you know that when you or you see someone close their eyes and pause longer than a normal blink during a conversation, it could be an indication of disapproval and un-comfortableness with what is being spoken about. ( maybe a clue that you are closing off and becoming callous)
It says Make the heart of this people but thankfully WE HAVE CHRIST and things can change through His Power In US , so if you and I do not allow ourselves to become callous, dull and closed…
NOW LOOK AT THE REST OF THIS VERSE —
Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”
Then :
WE WILL SEE …the truth in the situations around us and in us – having compassion and love for others and self.
WE WILL HEAR…be open to the truth and we wont be reactive in fears that cause us to want to hide, defend our thinking or feelings or ignore things altogether – we will be open, engaged and able to move it, move it!
WE WILL NOT BE CALLOUS…we will have understanding
and we will TURN from those OLD ways and BE HEALED!
Healing relationships, our hearts and the brokenness hidden in our souls.
Jesus thank you that you give us a way out of our own trapping of blindness and deafness and hard heartedness by simply submitting to you. Forgive us Lord for not trusting in your full provision and security causing us to believe that we must fight for ourselves, run and hide, or cover our eyes like a child scared and full of fear. Help us to stand in who you created us to be and let us move through our inner issues so that we can be a light shining brightly in the earth. AMEN!!
Have a wonderful MONDAY!
