Oct 26 – Thoughts and Things

In our family, birthdays sometimes stretch 3 days. My dear hubby turned 50! So here’s the journey!

When I began to ask what Dear Hubby wanted to do for his 50th birthday, we tossed around the norms—a trip, a family gathering – Family Friday birthday edition, or something fun. After a bit, he said, “I want to get together with my family, eat, and jam out.” Then I asked who he wanted to invite to his 50th birthday, and he said, “Whoever wants to come out!”

So he and our dear daughter (she is the worship director at the church) started looking at songs. She helped him get a set list together. He wanted the theme to be ‘The Power of God.’ He picked all the songs. He chose the order of the songs. Then we got the team set.

Our family is a worship team. Hubby plays drums, daughter plays keys and sings; son-in-law plays acoustic guitar, son plays electric guitar, and I sing. So we asked our dear friend K, a member of the band No Ordinary Sunday (which daughter, hubby, and friend used to be a part of), if he would come play bass. And we asked our friend and fellow worship lead singer A to come help us have a great time.

The Weekend Extravaganza

First up on Friday Night was practice!

We hashed out the flow and got the band gelled.

Even littlest future singer, baby T, got in on the fun.

On Saturday, we gathered for the food portion of the birthday weekend.

We went to our local sushi house! Seriously, where else would we go?

Then back to dear daughter’s house. We ate and sang happy birthday 3 times (once at the restaurant, once before dessert, and once when the little girls, who just thought they should sing it one more time). He had excellent homemade blueberry cupcakes from Gma Wendy and his sister’s homemade ice cream, vanilla bean, and two different kinds of peanut butter.

He loved his dessert and time with the family.

As I was looking through the photos, I just loved how dear Grand #2 looks at her grandpa (they spell it grampa)

We all spent most of the day together. It was awesome.

Party Day!

We all went to church that morning, and most of the band was part of the worship team. Then He and I went to lunch at a local BBQ place that we enjoy. In the meantime, a dear friend L and her daughter E got the decorations up.

When we got home from lunch, it was nap time. I laid down for about 30 mins and while he was out, I went on Operation Get the BIG 50 to the church and set up a table with a place for notes and cards for him.

Dear friend J, got the cake ordered and delivered!

We had a great turnout. One of the things he wanted was to open it up to anyone who wanted to come. Bass player K invited a group from his church and worship team. A few people invited friends who had never been to our church. Friends new and old showed up.

Ohhh Yeah

This song “LION” is so good. Dear Son was getting it on that guitar!

Hubby felt that this song is connected spiritually to what God wants to do. A shift is coming! We are looking for what God is doing, and we feel His presence – as we prepare the way!!

After cool down

We went back to the house, and Hubby looked through all of his gifts, cards, and notes of love and appreciation. His big ol’ heart was sooo full, and he was overwhelmed with all the love.

Pastor C gave Hubby this photo – they spent the summer working on his grandpa’s old 69 Ford F250 camper special to get it running again.

He was so happy and touched by this gift.

He sat there, tears streaming down his face, thanking God for each of you and reading every note.

He appreciated the gift cards too. 🙂

Thank you all for making this so special for him. Today he took the day off of work and he is going shooting.

Thanks for reading!
