Psalm 130, sin, forgiveness, hope

on

Psalm 130:3-5

If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
    Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.

We know that forgiveness comes with Jesus Christ. He bought it with His blood on the cross of Calvary. Imagine the reflection this psalmist is having, knowing his own sin. Perhaps he is even recounting it himself. Realizing that if not for the forgiveness promised by God, who could stand in the face of such a record of sin against them. Certainly not I.

Who could stand? No one. But because of this great forgiveness given. How great a weight of guilt it lifts off of us. We can with fear and reverence thank God and serve him. For not only can we stand before Him in Christ but we can run swiftly as well, to do His will.

Our hope is in our God and in His Word that is true! We wait for the Lord!

Father, thank you for the great forgiveness of sin that you have given. Jesus took it all. The curse of the law and he drank the cup of suffering dry. He bought and paid for our sins with His own blood. How could we stand if He did not? How could we? The weight of the guilt of our sin would have crushed us. For all day long men find ways to sin. But by your grace we have been set free from the punishment and the effects of sin. The blood of Jesus speaks a better word! It declared: GRACE! Father, forgive us this day for whatever sin may still be lurking in us. Draw us by your love. Holy Spirit cleans us from all unrighteousness and cause us to be pure. Let us be holy as you are Holy. Help us to cooperate with the Spirit of God for sanctification to the deepest part of us. Only you, God, can create in us newness. By faith we agree that we are a new Creation in Christ Jesus. Thank you Lord for the hope that is in Christ Jesus. Let your word penetrate our hearts and minds. Wash us in your word that we may be clean. We wait on you, Lord. For you alone, are our hope!

Thank you for praying and listening,

Starla
