Day 7 – He is The Restorer

Day 7 – He is the Restorer

From the beginning, God has been about restoring relationships. In this slick move by the serpent, he succeeded in getting Adam to blame God and Eve, Eve to blame the serpent and from that moment brokenness resided in men. A long line of history ensued with Cain killing Able, Jacob stealing Esau’s birthright, skip generations of the same to David killing Bathsheba’s husband to make her his own, Tonya Harding breaking Nancy Kerrigan’s leg so that she could win the trophy, my parents splitting up over a mixture of drugs, alcohol and a third party. History is laden with a trail of broken hearts.

Nowadays people relationally dissolve over the smallest slight. I was shocked and deeply saddened at the state of our nation when I watched on social media the ripping apart of marriages, friendships, and family over the 2016 Election of Trump. Overnight closest friends became enemies as people found out that their loved ones had voted for Donald J. Trump. I still see people on either side of the aisle squabbling and verbally jabbing each other on social media over his presidency. It’s painful.

Is that really how we want to live our lives? Do we really want to cling so tightly to a political figure that we destroy and distance ourselves from our own friends and family? It’s absurd.

I have been a party to a few relationship unravellings. They cause a tremendous amount of pain, disillusionment, and misunderstanding. The rabbit hole can be so deep it’s hard to find the light again. In some cases, you can only wait for change. I’ve literally just had to go on with life. Jesus came to restore. The light of the world Himself came to shine the light in dark places. That dark place is the abode of the heart. Relationships are destroyed because of heart issues. Hearts full of pride, anger, envy, and fear do certain things. These hearts fight, run, hide, and purposefully divide. Without Christ, we are a people most miserable and often alone.

2 Corinthians 5:18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.

Jesus sacrificed His own self for us. He was the first one to put His own well being aside to bring us into right relationship with God. He was a way maker. The first path taker. In Christ, we are able to make a way as well through love, kindness, compassion, and grace.

PRAYER: Jesus thank you for giving your life. You believed in reconciliation. Help me Lord to observe and search my own heart for the seed of division. I want to be like you, one who is a peacemaker, a lover not a fighter.

Do you have a broken relationship in your life? Ask God to help you reconcile. Be restored instead of resistant and offended.  Let us become people who have heart’s that choose togetherness and become people that bring peace instead of division.
