Shame on you

I am reposting this from January. A good reminder to me I see….

Encouragement and kind words are always better teachers than shame. -Jacob Isreal Facebook post :0)

SHAME:  a painful emotion caused by consciousness of guilt, shortcoming, or impropriety done by oneself or another, or to drive, force, etc., through the use of shame.

You don’t do things right?  You never finish what you start? It seems to me that you are out of line!……………

Shaming people with your words to get what you want is ineffective and breeds contention. Shaming yourself to get yourself to behave better enforces negativity and gives no empowerment to make real change.  We often talk to ourselves and others this way thinking we are doing a service of helpful advising. We are not! We often carry out the very opposite of what we want to do.

On the other hand ENCOURAGMENT and KIND words are very effective for they come from a place of LOVE. These types of comments are non-offensive, gentle and easy to be accepted. When we speak this way to others and to ourselves the result is often GROWTH.

Be careful with the way that you speak toward all people ….

Pro 18:21 Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.
