4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
First, first things first! Keep God first and Start with the Goal – stay connected to the Lord completely through prayer. Keep Him in the forefront of your life.
Then, Fight for the Heart. Your heart and your kids hearts. Make sure that love is the center of all that you do. Love God with all your heart, soul, and strength. So that His love in you can flow to you and through you to your children.
Lastly, Lead Intentionally – do discipleship on purpose. Etch His words on the hearts of your family. Talk about them at home, as you go, in the morning and the night. Make them part of all you do and think. Make them a part of your home.
My pastor said, “You can teach what you know, but you will reproduce what you are.” This is why discipleship starts with you. We all will pass along what is personal and important to us. We model how to handle life whether we are any good at that or not.
One of the questions he asked, “Can you articulate why you believe what you believe?”
