Lent 34

on

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” 13 So the Pharisees said to him, “You are bearing witness about yourself; your testimony is not true.” 14 Jesus answered, “Even if I do bear witness about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. 16 Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me. 17 In your Law it is written that the testimony of two people is true. 18 I am the one who bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me.” 19 They said to him therefore, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” 20 These words he spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.

John 8:12-20

In the gospels, there are many titles and ways Jesus spoke about Himself to the people to help them understand who He was. The Pharisees didn’t care who He was, they just didn’t want Him gathering people to Himself. They loved and longed to be the ones who interpreted life and told people how to live. But here Jesus reveals that He is the light of the world. What does light do? It helps us see.

With Jesus we see differently because we have the light. In Christ, we no longer interprete the world through dirty lens caused by our sin or through hurt and fearful eyes. We walk by faith, not by sight. We see hope. We see joy. We see love. We see potential. We see light! We see Jesus!

How is your view of the world, life, family, and church right now? Is it dark, scary, and full of fear? Come close to Jesus today and let Him turn the light on!

Father, forgive me for interpreting the world in my own view with You. You are the greatest force of light and love their is but often I forget and get lost in the mess of this world. Help me to see as you see today. Help me to pray into the things I encounter today, so that, Your power can move there. I want to participate in creating love, joy, peace, and goodness in this day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

All is grace,

Starla
