Take heed, watch, and pray

Mark 13:32 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. 35 Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”

This passage is speaking of the day when our Lord will return. The previous verses in this chapter give us a lot of information about signs, the end of the age, little details of the time, when something so awful called the abomination of desolation will happen, what will happen to the sun and the moon, and the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. But this section here stuck out to me the most. It’s most likely that it did because it is the most practical.

I am a what am I to do kind of girl.

First thing to note:

We will not know the day or the hour that He will come!

Next, therefore, (because you know that!):

BE ON GUARD, KEEP AWAKE! Older versions of the scripture add one little detail:

Take heed, watch and PRAY; for you do not know when the time is.

Jesus said, he is like a man going on a long journey. He leaves His house, His authority, and His work to the servants, us!

We are the CHURCH and He entrusts it to us. He give us His authority to which we are responsible to use it well. He leaves His work to us – each one of us doing and responsible for our own portion.

We like Jesus ought to be about the Father’s business until He returns.

So keep watch, stay awake, pray!

There is a principal here to live by: Be prepared!

When we are not watching, not praying, not staying awake to what is happening around us and in us that we are found to be sleeping and we are most unprepared. Wake up!
