Salt, trial, living sacrifice

Mark 9:49 “For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. 50 Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”

In the scriptures just before this Jesus is talking about not causing little ones who believe in him to sin and what to do if your hand, foot, or eye causes your to sin. Some would say he is talking about self-mutilation but it makes more sense that he is talking about the sacrifice it requires to enter into the kingdom of God and the warning that hell fire doesn’t end.

Everyone will walk through seasons of fiery trial where their will need to be sacrifice on our part to be like salt. Salt preserves, purifies, and adds flavor to our lives. I see this as the Holy Spirit making it possible for us to endure and to have peace with one another.

To walk this life with Jesus we are going to come up against some things that are hard and we will have to endure to the end. Essentially we have to be like “living sacrifices” to the Lord.

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

If our lives are to be seasoned with Christ, we must become a living sacrifice and learn to endure well in the trial.
