Psalm 149 praise, sword, victory

on

Psalm 149:6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,
And a two-edged sword in their hand…

Here are the two mighty weapons of the believer made ready for battle:

Their mouth and the 2 edge sword!

Worship in the mouth of a believer is a declaration of joy and victory over the enemy! Worship makes it clear that their will be praise until the enemy is defeated for the war that has surely already been won! This praise expresses, “I know where my help comes from!”

A two-edged sword is the mighty weapon of the word! It is sharp. It is powerful. I pierces. It divides. It is quick. This weapon hits its target every time.

“The word of God is all edge; whichever way we turn it, it strikes deadly blows at falsehood and wickedness. If we do not praise we shall grow sad in our conflict; and if we do not fight we shall become presumptuous in our song. The verse indicates a happy blending of the chorister and the crusader.”

Charles Spurgeon

We are they who praise using a sword!

Father, I lift my voice and praise! Let a new song come forth. You are our Maker. Let us be joyful in our King. Let a dance of praise come over me. Singing and dancing, for you have made the humble beautiful, with salvation. I rejoice in Your glory. I sing praise day and night. Praise on my lips and a sword in my hand. You are the God of victory! Every enemy will be defeated. We will overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony! We the saints declare! You are our victory! Let us not stop praising lest we grow sad in the conflict, for battle is hard, but we fight a good fight! So we sing! Rejoice, be glad, rejoice, oh my soul, for the Lord, our God, He reigns forevermore! Our God reigns!
