Rocks of Revelation #4 – Preparation

How long have you been going through the motions?

Life goes by so fast. I don’t understand why it often feels like it is moving at a snail’s pace! I do know that if I am not tapped into being ready to move at the speed of God then I end up in the speed of drift.

Trust me that is more likely to happen than you think.

Luke 1:17  and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.”

This rock of preparation is about being a people who are prepared for what the Lord is doing.  That means change! So what is the Lord doing in your life? If we are on drift then either we know what the Lord is doing and we just don’t care or we are on drift and missing it completely.

Let’s just look at that verse for a minute. I see two ways we are being made ready. Two ways we need to change and both have to do with the turning of our hearts:

  1. Fathers to the children
  2. Disobedient to the wisdom of the just

Fathers to the Children

What does it mean to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children. This is a massive change within a person. It is a quantum leap shift that takes us from “all about me and what is happening in my life” to caring and becoming responsible to the next generation. Notice I didn’t say responsibility for them but rather you have a responsibility to them. That responsibility means you become someone who changes the atmosphere around other people.  You purposely put God and His ways in front of them through your life which will teach and train the next generation in godliness by your example. You become one who is willing to carry the heart of the Father to others. This is about growing up into who you are created by God to be and being able to express the knowledge and the experiences you have had with God.

I am an avid learner. I read a lot. I write a lot. I listen a lot. I share a lot. I care a lot. One of my hearts desires is to see people grow in their souls. I want them to know and understand their mind, will, and emotions so that they can live for God with intentionality. I believe that when people know the truth it really does set them free. I want to be a thermostat, not a thermometer. That means I change the temperature in a room not just display it. So I have to ask myself “what am I pumping into the places that I frequent?” Am I the kind of person who is looking for solutions and finding the gold in people? Or am I a negative minder who sees the cracks in everything without any eyes for the potential in every opportunity and the people connected to it.

Disobedient to the Wisdom of the Just

This is just straight up about obedience. Obedience is a word hated in our culture. It use to be a prized possession and it is the gem that is worn upon the hearts of God’s people. The bible states clearly that obedience is better than sacrifice. You can lay your life down for a cause all day long but if it has not been laid down through obedience to the King of kings and Lord of lords then your sacrifice for that cause may just be in vain. We have to be willing to allow ourselves to be under authority – Gods and His people. The problem comes when our souls are so unexercised in submission to another that the only road it will travel is the one it created, wants, or demands. But that is not how the kingdom of God works. In God’s kingdom, we become disciples before we become masters over anything. The bible says in Luke 16:10 One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. OUCH! I remember the days when I would do everything halfway. I would say yes and then I would do it but I would leave out the finishing part. I remember the days when I would say yes but then would act out no. We don’t have to be perfect God gives us so much grace but our walk with the Lord ought to be laced with more and more obedience to the things He has said, to His word, and to those He has placed over us. This change is to learn more and more how to be like Jesus who was obedient to the Father even unto death.

The rock of preparation is a radical change from just a nominal Christian to a man or women sold out for God. The point of this rock is for you to be ready to be all that God has created you to be through loving God’s people so much you become an example in godliness and loving God so much you become obedient to His call.
