The Traps are set….

Ps 140:5 The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.

Yesterday I was looking at this verse…

I see TRAPs and lots of them in this verse!

and who is laying these traps….THE PROUD

So what are these traps:

Snares: A snare is something deceptively attractive, it gets your attention, and it entangles you like a twisted rope until you have noose around your throat.

Prov 6:2  You are snared with the words of your mouth, you are taken with the words of your mouth.

The Proud let their mouths get them into trouble !!

Flashy words, boastful words, angry words! These words snare us…there is something exciting to the flesh to boast about yourself, to give someone a piece of your mind, to exaggerate and color your life with words that are less than honest.

Cords: A cord is an enticement, any influence that binds or restrains, it is a bond or a tie.

Is 5:18 Woe to them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope.

We are all tied to someone else in someway or form. We are either a good influence to those around us or we are drawing others to sin and iniquity. We are also being influenced by others, we must gaurd against these cords that draw us to unhealthy ways.

Net: A net is anything used to catch or ensnare, it is something knotted like cords that are interwoven at intersecting places.

Proverbs 29:5 Whoever flatters his neighbor is spreading a net for his feet.

Flattery is full of dishonest praise. Looking to get into the good graces of other people. We weave these little nets speaking lies and falsehood, sooner or later we will trip. Lavishing others with false praise only places suspicion on you. People may smile and say thank you but your motive if it is not genuine will ring not true to the hearers ears like a annoying gong and you really have gotten nowhere.

Gins: A gin is literally BAIT. It is also a machine like the cotton gin. The point is to separate the cotton from the seed.

Job 18: 8-10For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare. The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him. The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.

When we put out BAIT for others to bite. WORDS and ACCUSATIONS, QUESTIONINGS, BLAME, GOSSIP, and the like…these things are (whether we are aware or not ) uses to intentionally separate. US vs THEM mentality!! I have a friend that is really good catching THE BAIT. When in a situation where confronting the issue is needed. People at times will lay bait…hoping to get you off topic so that they do not have to hear what you are bringing to them. She however is able to clearly “SEE” that bait and doesn’t bite it.

The only way to not be ensnared by any of these traps is to see things for what they are. To live truthfully and honestly. To follow Christ and walk in love.

Father, May we be AWARE of how the enemy uses us to set traps for our own feet and the feet of others….in that first verse Lord it says that these things are laid BY THE WAYSIDE and that means they are at my right hand on the way in my journey. If I am not careful. These things are so close in my NATURAL arsenal that I will use them against others. May I walk in love and in Christ. Letting truth be my only weapon and let love be on my lips.

  2. ha! I agree with Shelly, I don’t know how much of the spirit realm I’d like to see! I’m cosigning her statement!

We would be so shocked if we could see into the spirit realm! We definitely must remain aware, use discernment, and make wise choices. Good reminder to continually evaluate our conversations, words we speak, actions, thoughts and motives. 🙂

That was a great post. It’s great to be able to “see” the traps the way they are laid out. Helps to keep it in the front of our thoughts so we don’t get snared! 🙂
