Something that surprised me:

I am always surprised, even though I know, how good God is. On Saturday I had a meeting set up with a woman who has cancer. Its spreading. She on the last medication chance she has. And one of the ladies of our church ask if I would be willing to meet with her. This would be the first time I meet with someone like this.

I said, yes. And here’s why: After my grandma died, I remember how it felt to have others show up in the hurt. What I experienced with my grandma’s passing and the words that I felt burned on my heart, “Lean in when death happens, show up, call, go. It matters a lot!”

Pastors have this odd place of being with people on some of their most celebrated days and their hardest. Have you ever met with someone who is facing eternity with eyes wide open? I just did. And again, the Lord gave me exactly what was needed. I had been praying here and there for the last couple days. Saturday morning, I said, “Lord, I need your help. What do you say? There are no words. I don’t have what she needs, but You do.” He said, “come to the porch, bring your Bible, and a notebook.” I grabbed my pen and went.

What He gave me was built from all that He called me to write and do through the 21-day challenge. Only God does that -Prepares you beforehand!! The writing was for her today. But it will be a great reference for anyone facing hardship, even if that hardship is the end of life on this earth.
