Day 15 – Intentional remembering
Today’s Scripture:
1 John 5:18-21 We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
Let’s do a little remembering and look back at the past 14 days of thought trees: #actionpoint
- I walk in the light as He is in the light.
- The darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.
- I have overcome the wicked one.
- I do not love the world or the things in the world.
- I have an anointing from the Holy One.
- I shall be like Him for I shall see Him as He is. I am pure as He is pure.
- I don’t just love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
- He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world.
- Let us love one another for love is of God.
- By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us if His Spirit.
- For God’s perfect love casts out fear.
- For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.
- God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
- This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
What beautiful truths we have been renewing our minds with!
In today’s reading John is saying the same thing that he said in 1 John 3:6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Not that will not sin but that we will not live a lifestyle of sin. This is very similar thought pattern as when we talked about the sin that leads to death. Habitual sin leads to death. He is talking to the begotten of God, those who abide in Christ. We are kept both by God and by continual abiding in Christ so that we do not fall into a lifestyle of sin. In Christ, and with our brothers and sisters praying for us, we keep walking in the light and overcoming …
and the wicked one does not touch him. – He cannot attach himself to us like he can with those who are not begotten of God. Verse 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you,
Romans 6:14
for you are not under law but under grace.
Verse 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 21
Here is the point of this whole entire exercise of renewing our minds!
THAT WE MAY KNOW HIM!
