Actively Listen

Day 14 – He Hears us

Today’s Scripture:

1 John 5:14-17 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. 16 If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. 17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.

As we are reading the scripture, we can see that in order to have confidence in the Lord for what we ask of Him, it has to be according to His will and that will is in His word.

As we have mentioned in earlier posts, God watches over His word to perform it. He does his own will.

He hears us is a wonderful promise.

But are we hearing Him? Are we reading the word, seeking his face, and asking him what does today look like? What does this week look like? What does this month look like? What does this year look like? Are we praying according to what He is highlighting in the word for our everyday life? It’d something to think about.

The scripture kind of throws us for a loop talking to us first about how he hears Us and how we can have confidence in what we hear but then turns on a dime and starts talking about if we see a brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death but if you think about it for a moment because of the gravity of the human soul, death being final, and the hope of eternal life which we talked about yesterday. Prayer should be the first thing we do when someone steps in sin because physical death is final.

As we are walking together in our faith as brothers and sisters it then becomes very important and powerful that we pray for one another and hold each other accountable for the sin that we do that does not lead to death. But there comes a time when someone refuses to listen and they may walk away and do their own thing and we have no control over that. At this point,  praying for that isnt what is needed, but rather to trust God with that person. It’s in God’s hands and he will do what he has to take them home or turn them.

Action: Actively listen for what He is saying about the situations and needs you have, the situations and needs people around you have and pray according to what you hear.
