DAY 5 – Anointing
Today’s Scripture
1 John 2:19-21 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. 20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
People leave church sometimes and it can be heartbreaking.
In this passage John isn’t talking about just any kind of leaving the church – he’s talking about leaving faith altogether and that means walking away from church. How do I know that? Because he is talking about many anti-christ’s who are in the church. It’s kind of an interesting passage. The books of John are the only place this word antichrist is written in the Bible. So he defined what antichrist is. One who denies the Father and the Son and who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh.
Apparently, these walked with the church but then they fell away somehow. In recent years I’ve heard and read many stories of people falling away or “deconstructing” their faith. Many stories follow a hardship, an offense, bitterness, or a something that caused them to lose their faith in God. While deconstructed can be good to build firm foundation in Christ. These have walked away. Walked away denying Christ. They become atheistic.
So, the question then becomes did they trust in the church, or trust in themselves, but certainly they weren’t really trusting in Jesus Christ? The church cannot be all things to you, they will miss it. We cannot be our own saviors though we may try. But Jesus Christ, He certainly can be trusted – if we put our trust in Him.
In the Lord I put my trust;
Psalm 11:1-3
How can you say to my soul,
“Flee as a bird to your mountain”?
2 For look! The wicked bend their bow,
They make ready their arrow on the string,
That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.
3 If the foundations are destroyed,
What can the righteous do?
John makes it clear that deception is coming. IT IS COMING!
He says in verse 20-21 “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
We have an anointing. The Bible doesn’t talk about anointing as only for special “someone’s” who are on the platform. But for those who have the Holy Spirit. We have the One who knows all things. He holds all our foundations. Let Him build and rebuild them.
Action: Let us not assume that we would be any different if we encountered offense, bitterness or even a spirit of lies. Ask the Lord to guard your heart. Thank Him for that anointing and to help you to love Him, love His church, and to discern what to do when hard things come.
Let me be deep rooted in You
Let me love like you do
Help me when the hard comes
Help me when my heart hurts
Guard me when I take offense
Turn me when I the bitterness sets
Plug my ears from the spirit of deception
Help me to hold on the family of faith
Let me be where I can be loved
Let me go where I can find hope
Let me stay where people love
and not to run away...
Let not the enemy deceive me
when my heart is all broken up

Starla
