Hello Monday #33

Somethings I have been thinking about:

  • How does what you do or don’t do form and inform what you love?
  • What does our habitual movements form our liturgy?
  • What creates an idol?

If you would like to answer any of those questions and share them with me. Use this text box:

When I am doing normal everyday things is often when I have these deeper and thought-provoking thoughts. One of them is the dilemma that we who “work” in the church have with relationships and connection. People who “work” – and I air quote because it’s what we do but it isn’t work for me. It is what I was called too. Don’t get me wrong – parts of it are work, but the people part isn’t to me. Yet, it is the people part that weights on my heart and is why I had this ponder in the first place.

We see you
not just the parts you that you try to display
but the parts that you want to hide as well

We see you
and we stand by being a space of safety
to allow the wrestling you have
to not try to fix you but rather accept you

But then when you feel comfort and comfortable
acceptance and acceptable
you open up and let us in
to places and spaces that allow for the questions
the revealing of the wrestling
for it to come to the surface
to bring to light the deeper things
the hidden things
the places hiding underneath

We walk together
We talk together
We embrace together
Until the Lord moves us both through and on

Sometimes that is through circumstances
of moving
of changing
of growing
of fear
of running away
of health
of victory
but whatever the reason -- you go and so do we

And I wonder...
If anyone understands and sees the sorrow or pain
that comes with all the coming and going
with the "we must live with open hands" situation of
those of us who "work" in church

We can't be "everyone's everything" it's not possible
and yet we are often "inserted" into a lot of peoples
hardest
hurting
confusing
and messed up days
and most of the time we walk with you and talk with you
until you can walk on your own again.
Cause we are just guides pointing to Jesus until you see Him again and continue the conversation with Him

Sometimes I wonder if people feel left behind or forgotten by us or if they too are grateful for the moments we've had when the next someone enters the office with wrestling.
