Give, blessing, light

Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 Cast your bread upon the waters,
for you will find it after many days.
Give a portion to seven, or even to eight,
for you know not what disaster may happen on earth.

The ‘preacher’ tells us that being generous and being prepared are essential for our life. It is more blessed to give then to receive. I am not sure that we actually believe that. Have you felt that tinge inside your heart that recoils when asked to give? The truth still stands. We do reap what we sow. What we give is what we will get. Being a person that understands that giving and preparing for the day of adversity are important is essential in our lives. Without a willingness to give and the wisdom to prepare we miss out of the opportunity to be a blessing to those in need.

Ecclesiastes 11:3-4 If the clouds are full of rain,
they empty themselves on the earth,
and if a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where the tree falls, there it will lie.
He who observes the wind will not sow,
and he who regards the clouds will not reap.

Here the ‘preacher’ expressed cause and effect. If we are full it is for giving. If we are empty it is for receiving. When a tree falls over – it’s life is done for its roots are pulled up and it lays there to decay. When something is done, its done. Be careful not to put to much stress on trying to figure life out. Life it to be lived, not analyzed. When we spend too much time looking for just the right moment or the perfect circumstance we miss the blessing of the moment we are in to move with God in what He is doing.

Ecclesiastes 11:5 As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.

What is better to “know” or to “trust”? Without faith it is impossible to please God.

Ecclesiastes 11: 7-8  Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun. So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity.

Enjoy the light while it is day for in this life we will have many troubles. Yet, in Christ, we will overcome.
