Day 32- He is a History Changer

The Lord’s supper is one of the most sacred Christian institutions. Jesus, Himself, gave it to us, a holy remembrance, of what He would do and has done for us. This night is called Seder. Jesus and His disciples would gather together in the upper room. They would eat together, tell the stories of redemption from Egypt, sing hymns, and recline at the table signifying a remembrance that they are free from Egypt’s bondage. Then Jesus, in the middle of the eating, breaks bread and blesses it. He gives it to them and speaks words that would be echoed for the rest of the history by those who would receive His free gift of life. He is a history changer!

Mark 14:22-25 And as they were eating, he took bread, and after the blessing, He broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” 23 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. 24 And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

Seder literally means order. Jesus was about to usher in a new order. He was going to destroy the old arrangement. Adam and Eve gave the keys and dominion of the earth to Satan through the doorway of their sin. Jesus would take it back. He breaks the bread knowing He would be broken and given for us. He took the cup and gave thanks, looking to the joy, the outcome of His life poured out. Jesus restored the order of love, to be broken and given, to give us, something to be thankful for. PRAYER: Jesus, You showed us what real love is. It isn’t getting. It isn’t a feeling. It is being broken and given. It is willingly pouring out my life for those around me. That kind of love breaks the power of sin and shame and changes the future for generations. That is the kind of love I want to have. I want to be a history changer.

Have you been complaining about not getting the kind of love you think you deserve? Do you feel empty? Are you waiting for someone to come fill your love cup? Real love comes when we give. The joy, that kind of love brings, pales in comparison to the love we think we want. Go be a lover!
